FEELING RED

30 September 2014

I have a thing for collars and sweaters. It was chilly enough for me to wear a denim shirt underneath my oversized (and very comfy) red sweater. I paired it with a pair of black leggings and my favorite shoes at the moment : cut out booties. I honestly think that this type outfit is perfect for all body types, not to mention it feels like you're wearing p.j's and you look cute!  I can't wait until we start getting more days like this, Chilly, with some sun. I even made myself some white hot chocolate!

It's going to be a busy week. Tests and blogging and homework and football games. Even as i'm writing this I can feel time dawdling around me, taunting me with it's slow like stride. I hate it. But what can you do, but ride it out and deal with it. Who knows maybe tomorrow will have been worth waiting for!

Anyways Happy Tuesday! Hope you got some OOTD inspiration! Let me know what you think of these types of posts!

Polk-a-Dot Autumn

28 September 2014

My dog, Ruby, photobombing this last picture :)

For the first time in a really long time, it wasn't unbelievably hot here in SoCal. I took advantage of this slightly chillier weather (at least for a California girl) and wore my knit tights. I love fall and winter. They're my seasons. I love wearing sweaters, layering, and wearing a lot beanies. Granted it wasn't a real "fall" day, but it  was enough to get me excited for sweater weather!

So tell me, what trends are you excited for this fall? Are you a cold weather person? Let me know

Dear Cole St. Clair

27 September 2014

It's currently past midnight. And I'm awake thinking about you and Isabel and wolves. And strangely enough I want some french toast and a mug filled with chamomile tea. I'm actually really tired and kind of want to sleep, yet I don't feel like surrendering today yet. I think you'd get that. So I decided that I would write you a letter, because I think you of all people will understand my midnight ramblings and because I just finished Sinner and you're on my mind.
How's Jeremy? And Isabel? Leon? You know I've been thinking, I've lived so close to L.A and yet I haven't seen much of it. Maybe I should take your advice and become a tourist in my own city. After all, how else am I going to see it's pretty facade. I'll keep you posted. I'm listening to High Hopes by Kodaline right now. I think I have a serious thing for sad and depressing songs. But I think you'd like it. It's sad and it's got the melancholy hum that just draw you in. There's no booming bass or synth beats, just some drums, piano and a yearning voice.
Weird how active your brain can be, even after the whole worlds fast asleep. I'm kind of waiting for some deep thoughts to happen, but my brain is stuck on food and you. Mostly food. This is the moment I wish my house didn't have suck creaky, squeaky floors.
I know I've said this before, but characters are the voices that bring color in our minds. I read somewhere that sometimes you can even start acting like your favorite characters. I can seriously say that I've channeled my inner Cole St Clair this week. I've been sassy, witty, and been a little sad. I think part of the reason I love you so much, why I connect with you so much, is because you're fucked up and you're trying to fix yourself. For some reason, this week, reading this book I feel a little happy if not a little hopeful. You're trying to put the pieces back together and they might be a little ragged but they're there. And I love you for trying and making it happen. I see you and Isabel working so hard to be happy and be yourselves that it makes me want to try harder too. I'm rooting for you. I hope you're rooting for me too. So thanks for reminding me that it's okay to be sad, to cry, and to be a little messed up. *hugs you*
I know you probably think this whole letter is a little cheesy, bit random, but hopefully a little endearing and nice. I have this picture of you in my head after your parents came back running away into your bathroom wanting to die. Saying you were born to die. I know you're happy now running out of cars while on the freeway, hanging out with the always fashionable Isabel, and doing music stuff. So for me, as a reader, to watch you go from a very low low to a happy ending, was a happy thing.
I love how you made me laugh and cry and feel everything imaginable. I got a lot of weird looks in class whenever I laughed so i'm pretty sure people think i'm a little crazy. But that's all right, I was a little bit crazy before I read Sinner. Probably more than a little. So tomorrow i'm going to make myself some french toast and some tea. Shame you and Isabel won't be there with me. I make some killer french toast :).
So this is it Mr. Cole St. Clair, this is the end of my ramblings. I'm not going to bed yet, but I think I've said all I need to write now. Maybel i'll write you another letter. Maybe this'll be the only one I ever write to you.  I just want to say I love you, keep on being crazy, and stay happy.

What did you guys think of this letter? About Cole St. Clair?

Love,

Netflix Obessions

22 September 2014

Hello people of the internet! It's Tuesday and the only thing i've been wanting to do all day is curl up into a ball on my bed surrounded by junk food and binge watching netflix all day. But because of school that is essentially impossible. Saturday can't come soon enough! So because i've been thinking of netflix all day I'd thought I'd share some of my favorite shows with you lovely folks!

The Blacklist. I started watching this show this weekend, and I'm already in love with the show! Its soo good. It's action packed mixed with real life stuff. So it's about this con man guy who turns himself into the FBI to help catch people on his "Black list", thing is they only person he'll talk to is Elizabeth Keene, who is a total bad-ass by the way.
Grey's Anatomy. I love this show so much! I started watching this before I stared high school. I love the quirky humor, the drama, the craziness. It's just awesome. For those of you who don't know about this show, it's about Meredith Grey's life starting with her internship, and it follows her as well as her friends on the show as well.
Gossip Girl. Who doesn't love a little bit of drama? I'm in high school, I like shows and books about crazy high school people. So naturally i started watching this show. Despite my initial doubts about this show, it's actually grown on me, surprisingly enough. It's basically about these teens that come from elite families and their drama and lives.

Doctor Who. Because how can I not love this show. This was on another post of mine which you can check out here. I love this show so much! I know i'm late on the Doctor Who fandom train, but i'm so glad i'm on it. It's such an amazing show, i cannot recommend this enough. I evem got my older brother into it! So for those of you who don't know about this show, it's about this guy, The Doctor, who is able to time travel and help people. He takes various people with him on his adventures.

Once Upon A Time. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW SEASON TO AIR!!! Lately, in preparation for the new season i've been watching a lot of old episodes. I honestly can say this is one of my favorite shows ever. It's got everything you could ever want :drama, romance, cuteness, action, magic, and badassery. If you haven't given this show a chance I highly recommend it! I don't think i can accurately explain this show without giving away spoilers sorry! This show makes me so happy! I can't even tell you how much I love this show!!!

So what are your netflix obsessions? What shows do you recommend?

Book Talk:Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater

13 September 2014

 Release date: July 1, 2014
Book: Sinner
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Source: Netgalley (Note: I got this in exchange for an honest review)

The Basics:

A standalone companion book to the internationally bestselling Shiver Trilogy.

Sinner follows Cole St. Clair, a pivotal character from the #1 New York Times bestselling Shiver Trilogy. Everybody thinks they know Cole's story. Stardom. Addiction. Downfall. Disappearance. But only a few people know Cole's darkest secret -- his ability to shift into a wolf. One of these people is Isabel. At one point, they may have even loved each other. But that feels like a lifetime ago. Now Cole is back. Back in the spotlight. Back in the danger zone. Back in Isabel's life. Can this sinner be saved?

My Musings:

I absolutely adore the Shiver series. It's really fucking amazing! If you haven't read it I definitely recommend it! I was super excited for this book and thankfully was able to get it after it came out! I of course had high expectations for this book, and it didn't fail me at all.
This is a book for fans. Sinner was very much it's own book and not really companion. It was in the same world and Sam and Grace are mentioned here and there but it wasn't Shiver. Which was the point. So if you're looking for Shiver 2.0 this ain't it. I will say that you do need to read the Shiver series to understand the stuff in the book because the things that happened in Mercy Falls do play a role in the book. So if you haven't read it, get off your bum, get the series, get back on your bum and read!
Maggie Stiefvater has such an amazing writing style. She can be hilarious but be painfully deep. She has the perfect balance of sad musings and happy words. I love how honest her writing is. She's not romanticizing her characters or their problems. She's bringing them under different lights and just letting them tell the story.  I also love how sarcastic each of the characters are. It's honestly amazing!
I fucking love Cole and Isabel. The thing that I loved most about them was the fact that they were so messed up but were trying to be better. Characterization was perfectly done. They were strong until they couldn't be any more. But after all, isn't there strength in breaking down too? Cole was both poetically sad and witty. Isabel was sassy and cold. I could connect with both of them. They had me cheering and laughing and even crying. There's this moment where Cole reaches this really low point  where it seems like he's given up on everything. It broke my heart to see him like that. But in the wise words of Tix from My Mad Fat Diary "Broken people fall to bits sometimes. It's just what they do". Needless to say my fragile fangirl heart couldn't handle it and so I cried. I really wish there was a way to give characters a hug. I would have given them both one. Then probably smacked some sense into both of them. I love Sophia! I can relate to her so much. Her overachiverness, her aiming to please, ready to forgive nature. She is such an amazing human person who is just too too nice and too too good. I love her role in the story and the way she helps Isabel, even when Isabel can't do anything but push everyone away.
This is one of those books that's more character driven than plot driven. This book is essentially, without the werewolf stuff, about to very fucked up people who love each other and are putting the broken pieces back together. I did like how even though romance was a big factor in the book there were a lot of real life issues, like addiction, moving on from addiction, broken families, grief, loss etc. So this is a gritty book I'm not gonna lie. But the grit and gore are part of what I love about this book and make it special.
Romance obviously does take a front seat in this book. It's a book about Isabel and Cole's relationship. So there are A LOT of  omg-this-is-too-freakin'-adorable moments. Like seriously I was gushing over these cute scenes. I love their relationship. They are there for each other when it counts but neither of them rely on the other totally and completely. They are okay with being their own people as well as leaning on each other. Sometimes in books one of the characters ends up being totally and completely dependent on the other and I hate it. Romance wise  this book was on point!
I would definitely recommend this book to you guys! It's amazing. The writing is really good, the characters have amazing depth and it's just really freakin' awesome.

Coffee For Sinner: Blanco y Negro. Its really good coffee with vanilla bean ice cream. It's amazing. If you have the opportunity to try it I definitely recommend it! I think the contrast works really well with this book because in some ways Cole and Isabel are different but they compliment each other in their own way. Isabel is cold as a defense mechanism and Cole, well every one wants a piece of him, and he smiles and puts on a show.

My Rating:

Waiting on... My Best Everything

09 September 2014

Release Date: March 2015
Book: My best Everything
Author: Sarah Tomp
You say it was all meant to be. You and me. The way we met. Our secrets in the woods. Even the way it all exploded. It was simply a matter of fate.

Maybe if you were here to tell me again, to explain it one more time, then maybe I wouldn’t feel so uncertain. But I’m going back to the beginning on my own. To see what happened and why.

Luisa “Lulu” Mendez has just finished her final year of high school in a small Virginia town, determined to move on and leave her job at the local junkyard behind. So when her father loses her college tuition money, Lulu needs a new ticket out.

Desperate for funds, she cooks up the (definitely illegal) plan to make and sell moonshine with her friends, Roni and Bucky. Quickly realizing they’re out of their depth, Lulu turns to Mason: a local boy who’s always seemed like a dead end. As Mason guides Lulu through the secret world of moonshine, it looks like her plan might actually work. But can she leave town before she loses everything – including her heart?

The summer walks the line between toxic and intoxicating. My Best Everything is Lulu’s letter to Mason – though is it an apology, a good-bye, or a love letter?

Add it on goodreads

Why do I want to read it?

When I first saw this summary I thought it was pretty interesting. The thing that got me, however, was the fact that this was a letter. It makes you wonder what could have happened between Lulu and Mason. It's not even out and i'm already soo excited. I love books that write in letter format, like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Love Letter's to the dead etc. I love contemporary romances too sooo this is definitely up my alley

Why do I want to read it?

To be honest I never finished the Matched series, not because I didn't like it but because I just never picked up the last one. Granted the second one was a bit ehh, but I still loved the first one, so maybe sometime soon i'll read Reached. Anyways I do like this author and the story line seems super cool! That little quote on the front? Human voices wake us. And we drown. It so creepy but it just makes me want to read it more!
