Skating into style

29 January 2015

It's been a while since I've done an outfit post, so here I was planning to do one over a month ago. I actually went figure skating and took these pictures in December. But I never posted it. Better late than never right? I'm the type of person who always plays things safe. I do what i'm supposed to when I'm supposed to. I plan ahead. I study when I have to. You'd think figure skating was nothing. But I've only been figure skating once when I was like 6. My friend Marianne was in the same boat as me. So we decided to just go for it. As it turns out i'm not bad at ice skating. My friend did not have the same luck. She fell four times. Regardless is was a lot of fun!

There aren't many true winter days in Southern California, but this day was. It was cloudy and cold and I loved every moment of it! I was finally able to break out my favorite winter coat!
This was a good day and it's nice to remember days like this. It's weird how days as simple as these tend to be some of our more treasured memories.

Top Ten Tuesday Perks of Being a Reader

This weeks theme is top ten books that I would read with my book club if I had a book club. Now, I've been in book clubs before and when I was younger it was fun and awesome. As a sophomore I tried to get back into it but I didn't a)know anyone b)they weren't too open to new people. So that didn't end well. Technically though, because a lot of my friends are book nerds and love YA fiction we all tend to read the same books and vent to each other so it's kind of like having a book club. So With my non-official book club i'de love to read...

  1. Harry Potter books by J.K Rowling. You can never ever fangirl enough over Harry Potter. These books are amazing and I'm sure anyone one would be down to read them again.
  2. The Selection. I have a confession. I've never actually read these or pecked them up. I've heard people rave and recommend this book to me like crazy, yet I still haven't picked up the series. I definitely want to and I'm sure it would make me read them faster if I knew I had people I could talk to and vent to.
  3. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. Because this series made me cry. Because these characters are some of my favorite. Because of all the damn feels I get from this book. Ted just about sums it up. I need to share this experience with people. I've done it once on my own, why not have people who understand my fangirl emotions?
  4. Made You Up by Francesca Zappia. I don't think this has come out yet, but I feel like this book would be great for a book club. It's about schizophrenia and a girl who deals with it and continues to have a normal life. I feel like by sharing this book with other people and talking about it, you are also able to talk about mental health and the stigma around it. (Jacksgap made a video I really liked about this). This is an important issue to discuss and I think that this book will allow for people to gauge a whole new, and hopefully more accepting understanding of mental health.
  5. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. Or more accurately the Trilogy. These books are so creepy, so good, so cute, so amazing that it warrants a lot of hypothesizing and fangirling.
  6. Court of Thrones and Roses. This is by Sarah J. Mass. I read Throne of Glass with my last book club, it seems fair to read this one with it as well. I love Sarah J. Mass and I feel like this book wouldn't let us down.
  7. Cinder Series by Marissa Meyer. I've only read the first one. (review here) but I already know that i'm going to need people around me who will understand what I am going through and freak out with me.
  8. Vanishing Girls Lauren Oliver. I think this would just be fun to read and see how other people react to it.
  9. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowel. Seeing as my main reasoning for joining a book club now is mainly for fangirling and having people to fangirl with it only makes sense that we read Fangirl.
  10. City of Savages by Lee Kelly. Because this looks cool.
Me every time I read.

Book Talk: We Should Hang Out Sometime

25 January 2015

Release Date: December 23, 2014
Book: We Should Hang Out Sometime
Author: Josh Sundquist
Number of Pages: 336
Source: Netgalley (I received this book in exchange for an honest review)
The Basics:A bright, poignant, and deeply funny autobiographical account of coming of age as an amputee cancer survivor, from Josh Sundquist: Paralympic ski racer, YouTube star, and motivational speaker. Josh Sundquist only ever had one girlfriend. For twenty-three hours. In eighth grade. Why was Josh still single? To find out, he tracked down the girls he had tried to date and asked them straight up: What went wrong? The results of Josh's semiscientific, wholly hilarious investigation are captured here. From a disastrous Putt-Putt date involving a backward prosthetic foot, to his introduction to CFD (Close Fast Dancing), to a misguided "grand gesture" at a Miss America pageant, this story is about looking for love--or at least a girlfriend--in all the wrong places.
My Musings:

Alright I have to say I was waiting for this book to come out. It was on one of my Waiting on Wednesday posts and it's also the first WoW book that I've actually read. So needless to say I was really excited when I received this book! Also how cute is this cover? Like so cute right? Anyways lets get to the actual review.

So it's Monday. It's usually not a day people love. But I hope It's going well for you guys. So Sprinkle of Glitter does this motivation Monday meme every week and I thought I would give it a shot and put my own twist on it.

The Harry Potter books are amazing, if you didn't already know. They have everything including some life quotes. Luna Lovegood is a strange girl who's sweet and kind and loyal. When Harry is at one of his lowest points, it's Luna who shares this little gold nugget.

Throughout life people will walk in and out of our lives. We will lose things that meant a great deal to us, We can loose our passion for things we once loved. But just because we may have lost something that was important to us doesn't mean that good things won't happen to us.

But some attachments prove impossible to shake—including her love for her handsome neighbor Sebastian Stanhope. Then a life-altering letter arrives that forces Imogen to return to the manor in England, where she quickly learns that dark secrets lurk behind Rockford’s aristocratic exterior. At their center is Imogen herself—and Sebastian, the boy she never stopped loving. Combining spine-tingling mystery, romance, and unforgettable characters, Suspicion is an action-packed thrill ride.
My Musings:

Alright. So I think the cover is pretty awesome and I'm not going to lie it was half the reason I wanted to read the book. I know they tell you not to judge a book by it's cover, but I can't help it when it actually comes to books. The summary sold me on the book. It just seemed so eerie and cool and mysterious, that I HAD to read it. So read it I did. To be honest this wasn't a spectacular read, nor was it a book that I hated either. Let me explain.

Top Ten "Can't Wait For" Books of 2015

05 January 2015

This year is going to be awesome. My book goal is set at 55, hopefully I'll be able to read more than 55 books, but seeing as school is going to be driving me bonkers this year I figured this was a safer estimate. I was on goodreads, because that's kinda what I do with my free time. That and sing obnoxiously loud and off key... yup! Anyways I was on goodreads and I found all these AMAZING to DIE FOR books that I need to read sometime this year.
  1. Made You Up by Francesca Zappia. This about a girl with schizophrenia and who is battling it. First of all the cover is beautiful. Second the whole idea behind this book is amazing and I honestly think this will be one awesome book. Alex, the main character is starting to feel normal as she goes through the rights of teen-age-dom, and it freaks her out. I'm so excited for this book
  2. My Heart and Other Black Holes by  Jasmine Warga. It's about a girl and a boy who from a suicide pact. This one is going to break my heart. As will many of the books on this list. Not going to lie I have a penchant for really sad books for some reason.
  3. The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma. It's a mystery, paranormal YA book about a ghost and two living worlds and the secrets they hide. It seems really interesting and I like the idea of adding the ghost in the midst of it all.
  4. Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver. First I love Lauren Oliver. Her writing is amazing and she's just plain amazing. The book is about two sisters dealing with a life changing accident that scars one of them and forever changes their bond. Once one of the sisters, Dara, and another girl disapears, Nick has to find her sister before it's too late. Tell me you don't want to read this now.
  5. I was Here by Gayle Foreman. Gayle Foreman is such a great writer. She conveys emotions so well and I pretty much love anything she writes. I'm sure i'll love this book just as much. It's about two friends Meg and Cody. Meg commits suicide and Cody is left to figure it all out.
  6. The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand. Lex is dealing with her brother's suicide and a test that could have changed everything. Suicide is way too common in our society. I think by exposing it more in books, and movies, and the media to help those feel this way less alone is important. However, I DO NOT want it to be romanticized, because there is nothing romantic about someone ending their life.
I DO want for it not to be taboo to talk about. I DO want people to recognize that depression is a sickness. I DO want those who suffer from it to know nothing is wrong with them and that they need help to get better. Well I went off on a rant there...
  7. Like it Never Happened by Emily Adrian. This is about a girl who changes herself up, finds happiness, and of course isn't supposed to date the guy she really, really likes. I think this will be a fun read, with a cute little romance in it. Imma need something upbeat after all these tear tearjerker books.
  8. The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. Holly Black is really freakin' amazing! She's also super sweet in person. I met her a couple years ago at the Teen Convention in L.A one of the best days of my life. I met so many authors this day... Good times. Anyways this is about a place were fae and humans live side by side. People come visit thinking the faeries are harmless. However, one day Pan wakes up and everything is gonna change. This is going to be one awesome, action packed book. I'm sooo excited for this one!
  9. None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio. It's about an intersex girl who finds out she's intersex. I think the premise of this book is great and i'm eager to read this. I hope that the author pulls this subject off well. I think if done right this book can be amazing!
  10. The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent. There appears to be fantasy, romance and humor in this book. Plus I hear good things about this author. I'm sure this book will be awesome!

Quotes for the New Year

01 January 2015

Okay so it's 2015 which means a whole new year of struggles and happiness. Sometimes we just need some quotes, some words to help us through the year, comfort us during the sad days, congratulate us during those good times. Katie from Katie's Great Perhaps did this post where she wrote 7 quotes to inspire her readers and I couldn't help but want to this post as well. So without further ado here are my quotes for you.

"For last year's words belong to last year's language. And next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning"-T.S Elliot

"Perhaps that is where our choice lies -- in determining how we will meet the inevitable end of things, and how we will greet each new beginning."-  Elana K. Arnold

"Life is for living, not living uptight, see ya somewhere up in the sky."-Jay Z

"But there's a beginning in an end, you know? It's true that you can't reclaim what you had, but you can lock it up behind you. Start fresh." -Alexandra Bracken

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."-Dr. Seuss
